I live within 30 metres of the mill pond which is incorporated on the River Ravensbourne which flows through the London Borough of Bromley. This is situated in the BR2 postcode. The Mill pond has been a feature of this area for nearly 1,000 years – it was mentioned in the Doomesday Book. It has come as a shock to me and local residents and others who enjoy seeing the wildlife on the mill pond, that Bromley Council and the Environment Agency are considering draining the pond in the near future. A public meeting was called for by the Environment Agency for Tuesday 4th May but was subsequently cancelled[ by the EA] on Wednesday 28th April. Local residents have become very suspicious as to why the meeting was cancelled and some have formed a action group to oppose any such plans to drain the mill pond. The action group is named: Save Our Mill Pond [SOMP] and to date has had one initial meeting. The group will meet again shortly and it is hoped that they can work together with the Friends of Bromley Town Parks and Gardens group who are also strongly against this proposal. It is hoped that the public meeting can be arranged soon so that pressure groups such as the Friends and SOMP can find out what plans the Council and the EA are considering.
